Exhibitions
The Society has two established exhibitions each year, one at The Salt House in West Bay in Spring and the main Annual Summer Exhibition at a larger venue in or near Bridport. These are probably the highlight of our year when members get to showcase their artworks. All members are eligible to submit work. All works submitted are exhibited, assuming they meet the exhibition rules.
Members have the opportunity to display and sell their work. Folios (original artworks), prints (copies of original artworks) and greeting cards featuring their work may also be offered for sale in some circumstances.

Spring Exhibition – The Salt House, West Bay
This exhibition was held for the first time over Easter 2008 and has continued to prove popular with both locals and tourists alike.
The public have the opportunity to select their favourite artwork and the piece with the most votes is awarded the Batten Prize for most popular picture.

BAS Main Annual Exhibition – Sou’ Sou’ West Gallery, Symondsbury
From small beginnings in 1957 the exhibition has grown substantially and nowadays features a large number of artworks. A wide variety of media and techniques are on show.
Members and guests are invited to a special preview of this exhibition.
Free admission. Free parking. On-site cafe and shops.
Dates for the Summer Exhibition 2026: Thursday 20 August -Wednesday 9 September. Open 10.30am – 4.30pm
Preview – TBA. Grab a glass of bubbly and meet the artists!
Members only: Deadline for entries TBA
Hand in 17 August 10.30 am – 1.00 pm
Collection: TBC 10.30 am – 1.00 om
Awards for 2026
Awards will be made for artworks judged best in show. A local artist or panel will be charged with selecting the winners. This year, we are pleased to announce that cash prizes and a certificate will be given out as follows:
- 1st Prize – £100 plus certificate
- 2nd Prize – £50 plus certificate
- 3rd Prize – £25 plus certificate
Awards will be presented at the next general meeting following the exhibition. Award winners’ work is displayed on the Summer Exhibition Gallery page.
